Dietitians' Week 2026 (1-5 June) - prioritising nutrition through collaboration

This June started with Dietitians' Week to celebrate the impact and value of dietitians in the UK. BSNA and our members collaborate and work with a range of dietitians across many specialties. As the BDA says, dietetics is a vocation grounded in empathy, science and service and the support and care dietitians provide makes a huge impact to not only health outcomes but to people's every day quality of life.

Dietitians play a crucial role in addressing malnutrition through early intervention and preventative nutritional care in clinical pathways – using of appropriate evidence-based malnutrition management.

Though the Ten Year Health Plan and Cancer Plan both have prevention and early intervention at their core, there is little direct mention of the role of nutritional care in supporting better patient outcomes. This is despite the well-established evidence across a whole host of diseases and conditions as to the benefits where nutrition is included in the clinical pathway.

Dietitians’ Week as a vital way to advocate in support of dietitians’ role and value in meeting the challenge of malnutrition in the UK and to recognise that together - from industry to professional bodies to patient groups – we must come together to advocate for the role of dietitians and make malnutrition visible across Europe.
