Celebrating Home Artificial Nutrition Week 2025!
BSNA is delighted to welcome this year’s Home Artificial Nutrition (HAN) Week (4-10 August 2025) as a timely opportunity to raise awareness of how many thousands of patients across the country can be supported at home and in the community with nutritional care from parenteral nutrition, tube feeding and oral nutritional supplements (ONS)
The launch of the Government’s 10 Year Health Plan last month is a positive step to a future NHS, with not only the commitment to a new Neighbourhood Health Service, providing far more care in local communities but also the extension of virtual wards which allow hospital level treatment and care in people’s homes. Together these build upon work that has seen more and more patients able to receive nutritional support at home, preventing hospital admissions and allowing speedier discharge back home.
Over the last forty years, BSNA members have provided nutritional care and treatments including tube feeding, parenteral nutrition, Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) and chemotherapy at home, working with partners across the NHS and organisations such as PINNT (Patients on Intravenous and Naso-gastric Nutrition Treatment), to ensure all patients have appropriate access to the products they need.
For those that need it, medical nutrition can be life changing, and for some people it can be lifesaving. Supporting those patients using home enteral feeds, PINNT provides mutual support and understanding to hundreds of adults and children and their families adapting to life on home artificial nutrition.
Increasing awareness and understanding of artificial nutrition and medical foods is vital to ensuring patients receive the care they need. Recognising this, BSNA has produced a summary of our conference this year – Healthcare in the Home which is available here: https://bsna.co.uk/news/new-report-on-transforming-healthcare-in-the-home-an-ambitious-vision-for-the-nhs-ten-year-plan and you can access more materials on HAN Week through PINNT’s website here: https://pinnt.com/HAN-Week-2025.aspx
