World Food Safety Day 2026: safe food everywhere
On World Food Safety Day (7 June), BSNA joins with our global colleagues at the International Special Dietary Foods Industries (ISDI) to reaffirm our shared commitment to safe food for all.
The specialist nutrition industry in the UK and globally is proud to provide people with the essential safe and nutritious foods they need to live, grow and thrive.
Specialist nutrition products are scientifically developed to cater for the nutritional requirements of people with special dietary needs - supporting people throughout all stages of life, from the healthy growth and development of infants and young children to the dietary management of patients with clinically diagnosed diseases, disorders or medical conditions, those who are critically or chronically ill and people in older age.
These foods are tightly regulated categories, meeting the strictest safety and quality standards -, with food safety and quality are embedded at the core of product design, production and use. These systems are aligned with international standards and are continuously monitored, verified and improved to reflect advances in science and technology.
Clear, accurate information is an essential extension of food safety. Transparent labelling and responsible communication help consumers, caregivers and healthcare professionals understand how special dietary foods should be used safely and appropriately, reinforcing trust and supporting informed choices.
This year’s theme – “From burden to solutions: safe food everywhere” – is a powerful reminder that food safety requires sustained collaboration across the food chain and for those who rely on specialist nutrition, ensuring the safety of these products is fundamental to protecting health, supporting development and improving quality of life at every stage.
As an industry, we are committed to working with regulators, policy makers, scientists and healthcare professionals to produce foods based on the latest scientific information and with the highest food safety stands, for the benefit of those who rely on them.
