The newly formed IDDSI UK Reference Group
BSNA members are actively participating in the newly formed UK IDDSI Reference Group (UKIRG). The UKIRG has been set up to monitor and foster IDDSI implementation in the UK with the broad aim of “What can we do to maintain the integrity of the IDDSI framework in the UK?”. An initial meeting in January was well attended by a wide range of participants including chefs, dietitians, speech and language therapists, caterers, care home representatives and medical nutrition industry representatives.
Workgroups will be established based on the following themes:
- Utilisation/Guidance/Best Practice Practicalities of catering – including obtaining support for medical diets
- Communication/ Newsletters
- Research/Data Collection, including ONS variability and guidance
- Implementation Advocacy
- Education/Training (including formal qualifications for chefs / caterers)
- Resource Collection/Development
- Outreach to groups/organisations who are not already represented at this forum
BSNA members hope to bring expert medical nutrition product knowledge to contribute to relevant workstreams and look forward to ongoing collaboration in this important initiative.
