BSNA exhibit at BAPEN 2016

The British Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (BAPEN) was BSNA's first big conference, and we were very excited to be exhibiting. As it was our first big conference there was lots to organise in the weeks leading up to it.

This year’s conference was entitled ‘Malnutrition Matters’, a subject of great importance to us. In August we produced an article for NHD magazine about ‘Malnutrition in the Elderly’. This article concludes that full implementation of high-quality pathways of nutritional care, and the recognised role that dietitians can play in evaluating a patient’s need for oral nutritional supplements (ONS), can result in both short- and long-term savings for health and social care services, not to mention the health and wellbeing of the patient. This year's BAPEN symposia covered some really interesting topics, including: the cost of nutritional support at home; blended food and feeding tubes; quality and safety in prescribing nutrition support; and access for parenteral nutrition.

One of the key messages taken from BAPEN is that a nutrition support team is of critical importance in supporting optimal health outcomes.

The Annual BAPEN Conference was held on 8 and 9 November at the Hilton Metropole, in Brighton. We are already looking forward to 2017!
